While summer is always very hot, for children out of school for the holidays it means play time. Here’s how to keep kids healthy during the summer.
Key Risks
Dehydration among kids is very common during the summer as they forget to drink water while they play. There is also a higher risk of heat stroke due to the hotter temperature.
Early Signs
During the summer time, some of the early signs of dehydration to look out for include: dry skin, sunken eyes, and/or dry mouth which can be life threatening. Also, heat strokes can cause dizziness, headaches, and rise in body temperatures.
Treatment
If your child has any of the aforementioned symptoms – such as dehydration – rehydrate your child with water, fluids, and minerals. Any of these conditions should also be checked by the doctor to be sure the correct treatment is being provided.
