Up Close and Personal With Ahlaam Ali

A name synonymous with fitness in Dubai, HEALTH met with Ahlaam Ali, Lifestyle and Nutrition Consultant to find out what makes her tick.

Q Who is the real Ahlaam Ali?

Ahlaam: I would like to believe I am a fun, outrageous yet well-disciplined individual and I know exactly what I want out of life. Having said
that, I am always open to new experiences and need a constant buzz out of life!

Q What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Ahlaam: I really enjoy reading and writing and books give me the joy and energy that I can only get from my other passion of photography. Having written 2 Hotties Handbooks so far, I am on a roll and feel I have 10 more books in my head that will empower people in different ways. I escape once a year to a resort in Thailand to enable me to retreat from reality and live the ideal life of no shoes and no news.

Q What’s the last good book you read?

Ahlaam: Ask and It is Given – A book that really revolutionizes the way we manifest and create our lives. It is a book written by Abraham through Esther and Jerry Hicks. It gives you tools to create a successful life, business and your ecosystem around  you. Basically it says your thoughts create your world. This book was presented to me a few years ago by Her Highness Sheikha Intisar Al Sabah of Kuwait and it totally changed my life. I am still thankful to her to this day for her ultra-kind gesture. She herself is really spiritual and has gone on to touch a lot of lives in a positive and empowering way.

Q What does the word relaxation bring to mind?

Ahlaam: An Eco reserve in Thailand with my “baby” who is 16 years old. I go there every year to write my book and I find it to be a total destressor with absolutely nobody I can bump into. Its sheer relaxation, great food, clean air and totally surrounded by my music and books, I feel I really  am completely blessed.

Q A typical weekend for you is?

Ahlaam: Hanging out with friends on a Thursday night – it could be the movies, home parties or a good musical evening. Fridays are exclusively saved for my son with whom I will just go to the movies or drive out to the desert and take pictures. Above all, I do not plan my weekends at all. I just go with the flow. If I feel like chilling at home, I will totally immerse myself in a good movie or a good book and sip tea and detox juices all day. I am a very high energy person and need to be achieving something all the time. I get bored easily and quickly and need some progression and freshness in my daily life.

Q If you could be anyone in this world, who would it be and why?

Ahlaam: I would be Richard Branson. He has the business acumen, the joie de vivre; the devil may care attitude and knows how to live life to the max. I would happily trade places with him even for a week, to learn how he does what he does. He is fabulous inspiration for entrepreneurs out there.

Q What’s your favorite restaurant in Dubai?

Ahlaam: I have to say my favorite restaurant is still Zuma. I love the buzz, the food and the fact that you can eat healthy there. They are amongst the few restaurants that have gluten-free soya sauce. And everybody who I dine out with knows that I am very choosy. And I have extremely high standards in everything. People/restaurants/resorts have to be exceptionally good to pass my high standards.
