Hit the Beach Safely With These Tips

Share

summertipsPlanning to hit the beach this summer? Read on for some handy hints on how you and your family can stay safe on the sands…

Stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day – between 10am and 4pm – this is also when the sun’s rays are at their strongest.
Always keep an eye on your children and don’t let them venture unattended into the water.
Adhere to any advice from lifeguards or warning flags and stay within the designated swimming area.
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and don’t wait until you feel thirsty to take a drink.
Wear shoes – the sand can be hotter than you think
Sun protection is essential if you’re by the beach so we recommend the following: Apply sunscreen generously and often – we suggest every two hours. Always reapply sunscreen after you have been in the water. Select a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays. Make sure you cover any exposed areas with sunscreen, apply 30 minutes before you venture to the beach and use at least SPF30.
Rays bounce off the sun and water so even if you plan to stay in the shade – under an umbrella or in a cabana – you need sunscreen.
Wear protective clothing; aim to wear beachwear with built-in SPF protection, a hat and sunglasses.(Credit: COÉGA Sunwear)
