Dr. Faisal Ameer’s journey from the serene valley of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to becoming a renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeon is a story of academic excellence, perseverance, and a passion for art. Raised in picturesque Srinagar, Dr. Ameer attended Tyndale Biscoe School, where he not only excelled academically but also displayed a keen interest in art, particularly drawing nature, human forms, and portraits. His artistic pursuits garnered recognition with several awards at both state and national levels.
Transitioning to the next phase of his education, Dr. Ameer pursued his pre-university studies at Army School, Srinagar, successfully qualifying for the All India Pre-Medical Entrance exam. This paved the way for his entry into the field of medicine. Choosing LLRM Medical College, Meerut, for his medical education, Dr. Ameer continued to distinguish himself by earning gold medals, honors, and the prestigious title of the best all-round student in the year 2000.
The intersection of Dr. Ameer’s interest in art and the pursuit of perfectionism led him to the field of plastic surgery during his early years of graduation. Completing his General Surgery residency at his alma mater, he obtained his Master of Surgery training in 2006, solidifying his foundation in the medical field. His commitment to excellence and continuous learning prompted him to take up a Plastic Surgery residency at King George Medical University, known for its esteemed plastic surgery unit.
Dr. Ameer’s academic journey reached new heights as he was awarded a gold medal for his exceptional performance in the MCh examination. Further honing his skills, he underwent specialized training with a hand and microvascular fellowship at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, and a cosmetic surgery fellowship with Dr. Manoj Khanna. These experiences equipped him with a diverse skill set, preparing him for the challenges ahead in the field of plastic surgery.
Returning to his roots, Dr. Ameer served as an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery at Muzaffarnagar Medical College. His contributions to education and patient care were acknowledged when he received the Ethicon traveling fellowship for plastic surgery from the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India in 2010. This recognition marked a significant milestone in his career, showcasing his dedication to the advancement of plastic surgery practices.
Dr. Ameer’s international journey took him to Dubai, where he worked at Elite Style Polyclinic and Belhoul European Hospital from 2016 to 2019. During this period, he expanded his global perspective on plastic surgery while contributing to the healthcare landscape in the United Arab Emirates. Currently, he holds the position of Specialist Consultant Plastic Surgery at Thumbay University Hospital Ajman and Professor at Gulf Medical University, UAE, further solidifying his reputation as a skilled and dedicated practitioner.
He gained broad experience performing high-precision surgeries, microsurgery, plastic surgery, and reconstructive plastic surgery.
One of the notable highlights in Dr. Ameer’s career is the recent success story of a disabled Sudanese war veteran, Robert Ruai Muorwel Gum. The complex surgery, combining wedge osteotomy and microvascular tissue transfer, became a turning point in Robert’s life, enabling him to walk again after 23 years. Dr. Ameer’s involvement in this case highlights not only his surgical expertise but also his commitment to improving the lives of patients facing formidable challenges.
