Move over balayage, there’s a new way of coloring hair that’s making waves. The technique known as ‘flamboyage’ uses a medley of colors, applied in a Way that gives a lot of movement, with the end result of hair that is healthy, Natural, and very sophisticated.
TECHNIQUE
With interior aesthetics in red, white, and black with accents of silver, The Marquee Salon in the Arabian Ranches gives off a feeling of a more glamorous era where women indulged in their special salon time. Alex, the senior
stylist, informed me that Flamboyage would be perfect for my hair because though my hair is thin, there is a lot of it. This technique is part of the family of coloring techniques that include
Balayage—which uses a game of colors that are literally painted on the hair, Sombreyage–a blended ombre, and then this, which still uses the different colors, but is a more natural style than Balayage that’s perfect for Dubai’s winter
season.
PROCESS
To lighten my hair in places, INOA- the ammonia-free bleach-would be used. To start, Alex first applied root color to cover any greys and then next, applied the INOA mixed with hair reconstructor Olaplex from the roots to the
ends. The most interesting part of the process was where she deftly teased tiny sections of my hair and applied color in these areas. This would ensure there would be no structured streaks of color at the end of it all. The 3 different colors were applied to give lots of movement and almost sun-kissed hair. This was kept on for around 20 minutes to ensure the bleaching effect was controlled.
FINALLY…
Next, it was shampooed out and a toner was applied over the sink to blend everything and afterwards, I was treated to an Olaplex treatment and a Treat Me treatment by Kevin Murphy to infuse vitamins and nourishment back into my hair. After the treatments, Alex trimmed my hair and blow dried it.
RESULTS
A very new look! With 3 slightly varying tones of colors in my hair, my hair looked healthier and had a lot more movement. The best part was the color looked natural, not painted or streaky. Also, the overall shade of my hair was lifted just slightly and it gave me an overall softer look.
