November 20, 2019; Dubai, UAE: Thumbay Hospital – Ajman, the leading academic hospital under Thumbay Group’s Healthcare Division celebrated a significant milestone – the birth of over 60,000 babies at the hospital since its opening in 2002 – a record number for the private healthcare sector.
A special ceremony to celebrate the occasion was held at the hospital on 20th November 2019. His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Court, Ajman, was the chief guest of the function, presided by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group, in the presence of Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay – Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group and Mr. Mohammad Abufara, Chief Operating Officer, Thumbay Hospital, Ajman. The event was also attended by a few children who were delivered at the hospital during the last 17 years. Moreover, to celebrate the occasion, Thumbay Hospital Ajman presented healthcare services voucher worth AED 5000 each to the first five children born at the hospital.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said that the remarkable number of babies born at Thumbay Hospital, Ajman in such a short period of time is a reflection on the services provided by the hospital. “It is an amazing feeling to reflect on the fact that in the span of 17 years, Thumbay Hospital, Ajman has helped bring over 60,000 babies into the world. We are proud of this achievement, yet humbled to think about all the families we have served. Back in 2002, when we opened this hospital, our first academic hospital, we developed a mission statement to which we have strictly adhered all these years. Our focus has been to always put the best interest of the patients before everything else.”
The hospital’s expert team of gynecologists and neonatologists have also successfully handled several high-risk pregnancy cases, complicated cases of premature deliveries, triplet births, etc. Of the total number of babies delivered since 2002, approximately 58% were girls and 42% were boys.
Among the reasons for the hospital’s growing popularity is its world-class facilities, combined with some of the best doctors in the region. The Thumbay Hospital network has established an integrated patient-centric healthcare model that takes into consideration the emotional and cultural needs of a patient in addition to their medical needs, all the while ensuring affordability.
“Over the years, Thumbay Hospital, Ajman has enjoyed the pleasure of celebrating with countless families as they welcomed new members. The hospital’s commitment to provide high-quality care and uncompromising service for patients, at the same time making treatment affordable, has been among the reasons for its popularity as a leading destination for mother and child care. We thank all our patients for placing their care in our hands and the staff of the hospital for the wonderful work they’ve done and continue to do. We also thank all those who have referred their friends and family to us,” said Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Thumbay Group.
Thumbay Hospital, Ajman, has a well-equipped Level 3 NICU – one of the biggest in the country – and the hospital is staffed with expert Gynecologists, Pediatricians and Neonatologists capable of handling all cases of pre-term pregnancies which are 24-weeks and above. Moreover, the hospital follows a policy of ‘minimal handling of the newborn’ with regard to prematurely delivered babies, meaning minimal intervention in case the baby is born healthy. The hospital strongly advocates ‘kangaroo care’ wherein parents are encouraged to keep the premature babies close to their chests during the winter, to avert the risk of hypothermia. ‘Absolute breastfeeding’ is yet another policy of the hospital, and accordingly, the hospital encourages mothers to only breastfeed the babies upto 6 months, and not to give any other milk.
