Women from across Dubai, many of whom thought golf was not for them, have taken to the course for the first time in a series of events held at The Els Club.

Hosted by love.golf, 65 Muslim participants were welcomed to the game at four introductory experiences held between November 20-27.

love.golf, supported by Syngenta Golf, is an empowering group coaching experience for women which replaces traditional golf instruction with the freedom to explore, discover untapped potential and bond within a supportive, like-minded group.

At each taster experience, participants were welcomed to The Els Club and taken onto the course by Amy Millward, a Claude Harmon III Performance Golf Academy Teaching Professional, and guest coach Hannah Crump, who flew in from the UK especially for the events.

There they tried golf for the first time, each given a club and license to hit the ball in the stunning surrounds and amongst a friendly, motivating group of fellow women.

Speaking shortly after her experience, participant Iram commented: “Coming in my full abaya and hijab I was worried that people might stare at me, but I was made to feel 100% comfortable and not like it was somewhere I wasn’t wanted.

“I really enjoyed the experience overall, and loved both of the coaches who let us do what came naturally, rather than overload us with information.”

Another participant, Yasmin, added: It’s intimidating when you see it on TV but when you come out here with these coaches the whole experience is pressure-free and much more fun than it looks.”

For a number of women it was a breakthrough moment, as although they live very close to the golf club, it’s not somewhere they had even considered visiting before.

Reflecting on the success of the events, Coach Amy Millward said: “What we’ve seen across the events is groups of women who are sometimes a little anxious when they arrive, but once they are out on the course they embrace the experience, support each other and are very soon strutting down the fairways!

“As a female coach, naturally I’d like to see more women playing and more importantly enjoying this game. We have made a big step forward this week and look forward to welcoming many more in the weeks and months to come.”
