8 July 2015: The Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek, The Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa and The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management were among the 21 finalists in the Dilmah Real High Tea Global Challenge in Colombi, Sri Lanka.
Three Middle Eastern teams made it through to the final of this culinary tea-inspired competition which has travelled the globe for 8 years searching among 710 contestants in order to find the 21 finalists. The Middle East was proudly represented by:
Dammika Herath and Ronaldo L. Sadiz from Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek, UAE who introduced the judges to the multicultural life of the UAE with varied modern dishes from the cuisines of Arabia, India and Asia.
Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek, UAE was award a bronze medal.
Alpesh Dias and Sunil Kumar Puzhakkaldam Kulapura from The Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Oman who took the judges on a culinary voyage aboard the Sultana from Oman to New York complete with timed music and edible return ticket.
The Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa, Oman was awarded a silver medal as well as the Judge’s Award by Dilhan C. Fernando as his personal favourite presentation.
Maximilian Rauch and Michael Kitts from The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management, UAE with a modern Tea-Licious theme of which the lamb kofta, spiced tomato compote with mint tea crumpet paired with Dilmah Mint Green Tea was the highlight of the presentation.
The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management was awarded a gold medal.
The judging took place from 1-3 July, 2015 in Colombo, Sri Lanka by the celebrity judges Peter Kuruvita and Simon Gault, Presiding Judge Bernd Uber and Tea Judge Dilhan C. Fernando. Each competing team had only 35 minutes to serve 6 dishes whereof 2 had to be tea-infused creations, 2 food and tea
pairings, 2 tea cocktails and, of course, brew the perfect cup of black tea. Points awarded to the teams were based on the scoring criteria from the Association of World Chefs.
