Rising star pianist Seong-Jin Cho set to captivate audiences across Abu Dhabi emirate

The Chopin competition gold medallist will share his interpretation of iconic classical symphonies for the first time in the region

Held under the under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, South Korean rising star and Chopin competition gold medallist Seong-Jin Cho is set to mesmerise audiences across Abu Dhabi emirate with two spectacular piano recitals that will take place at The Arts Center at New York University Abu Dhabi and at the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara on the 7th and 8th of February 2018.

Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Classics programme has set the stage for Seong-Jin Cho’s debut performances in the region. Cited as one of the most dynamic young piano talents operating in the classical scene today, Seong-Jin Cho has expressed a predilection for the works of Chopin that has become a defining principle of his artistry. His passion for Chopin will be reflected in the concert programme for his two concerts across Abu Dhabi emirate, comprising in addition an inclination to also explore Beethoven’s mastery with the classic sonata form.

The programme also features the 19th century classic Fantasiestuecke by Robert Schumann, a piece that was inspired by the collection of short stories and essays, Fantasiestücke in Callots Manier written by the German Romantic Author E.T.A. Hoffmann in 1814-1815. Concluding the evenings will be Debussy’s Images compositions, featuring an impressionist tone that will guide audiences through a transcendence of reality in the form of music.

Seong-Jin Cho achieved global acclaim in October 2015 upon winning First Prize at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland, only four years after he had won third prize at the Tchaikovsky competition aged only 17. In January 2016, Seong-Jin Cho signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon, with the first CD of this collaboration featuring Chopin’s 1st concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra and Gianandrea Noseda and the four Ballades, released in November 2016.

Seong-Jin played recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw’s Master Pianists international series, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, Seoul’s Lotte Hall, St Petersburg’s Mariinsky, and Lucerne’s KKL. He has toured with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen, showcasing overwhelming talent and natural musicality while establishing himself as one of the most distinctive artists of his generation.
