A safe way to exercise and stay healthy this summer
Dubai, May 2017: As the Holy Month of Ramadan is upon us, most of us are looking forward to the shorter working hours and slower pace for a month, however for those who are fasting, it also raises concerns about exercising and how to do it safely.
Unknown to most, falling out of a regular exercise cycle can lead to a plethora of health-related problems including, weight gain, higher stress levels, poor eating habits, and it is much harder to get back into a regular routine after Ramadan is over.
Reza Alavi, the Founder of Real Pilates encourages people to keep up their exercise pattern: “Ramadan is an excellent time to focus and work on yourself. This Ramadan we invite you to try out Pilates if you haven’t already. Both, Pilates and Yoga are safe, low-impact classes that help you stay fit and healthy, build lean muscle and improve posture, and leave you refreshed after the class.“
How to train safely during Ramadan:
- Replenish your body with liquid the night before to get it ready to take on your fast during the day
- Steer away from heavy weight-training during fasting to avoid injuries
- Choose a low impact way to stimulate your heart rate. Low impact will also keep sweating at a minimum saving the water already stored in your body, while still working out your muscles
- Focus on indoor total body workout programs like Pilates and Yoga and complement them with swimming if you are desperate for some outdoor exercise
- The best time to exercise is one hour before Iftar or after Taraweesh, but each and everyone should see and feel, when is the best time to work out for them
- Listen to your body – if you begin to feel lightheaded, dizzy, or sick, stop all activity and rest immediately
