Nasser Al Nuaimi: The UAE is Keen to Provide Protection and Security for our Children

The “Safe Childhood, Promising Future” awareness forum was inaugurated by Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior.

The forum, organized by the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center at the at Emirates Park Zoo in the Al Bahia area, was held in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, the Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Civil Defense, the K9 Security Inspection Department, the Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS), and a number of institutions.

The Secretary General stressed that the Ministry of Interior devotes great attention to raising awareness about children’s issues. “The Ministry supports local and international efforts to ensure their protection from any type of abuse,” he said, underlining the UAE’s commitment to provide protection and security for children, the pillars of the future.

Adding further, Major General Al Nuaimi emphasized the importance of strengthening awareness around such issues. “It is a national duty and a shared responsibility between all concerned parties to protect our society and our children from being exposed to any potential risks. This falls in line with the vision of the UAE towards children’s issues,” he added. Moreover, he reiterated the importance of joint efforts between all relevant institutions to promote prevention and protection for children from abuse and neglect.

For his part, Major Dr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Ali, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center, noted that the strategic partnership with civil society institutions, governmental and private, and the continuous cooperation and support to the Ministry of Interior’s Child Protection Center aims to reach a broad segment of children. He expressed his hope to teach all children and their families about the ways to stay safe and protected in several areas, which include in the home, on roads, and online.

In a bid to achieve the desired aspirations of raising children who are aware of the various potential risks that surround them and threaten their security,

Major Dr. Al Ali encouraged all parties to consolidate the concepts of joint institutional work. He noted that it was imperative for private and civil institutions to develop sustainable and cooperative communication methods.

During a presentation by the Gulf Centre for Aviation Studies (GCAS), Dr. Othman Al Khouri, Chief Human Resources Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, echoed the importance of the support and participation of government institutions in the efforts made to protect children. He outlined the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation in raising awareness around the issues children face, including the prevention of abuse.

The presentation by GCAS additionally focused on the introduction and method of raising the awareness of children about the airline industry, the safety procedures, and the customer services available. Near the end of the presentation, the center presented Major General Dr. Nasser Al Nuaimi with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of his efforts in the area of child protection, and for making their safety his top priority.

The other participants of the forum contributed in various ways. The General Directorate of Civil Defense presented interactive outreach presentations at the forum; the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols organized a number of cultural and awareness competitions, with prizes for the winners. The K9 Security Inspection Department participated by showcasing their police dog show.

Participants of the “Safe Childhood, Promising Future” forum included: Colonel Mubarak bin Muhairom, Director General of Community Protection and Crime Prevention; Colonel Dr. Salah Obeid Al Ghoul, Director of Law Respect Culture Bureau; Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Abdullah Ahmed Al Ansari, Director General of Civil Defense at Abu Dhabi; and Dr. Othman Al Khouri, Chief Human Resources Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports. A significant number of officers, representatives of participating institutions, and male and female students also participated in the forum.

 Accompanying Exhibition

Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior, toured the various pavilions participating in the exhibition, which were held on the sidelines of the “Safe Childhood, Promising Future” forum. The forum was held with the participation of the Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Civil Defense, the Directorate of Traffic and Patrols, and a number of government and private institutions.

During the tour, Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdul Jalil Abdullah Ahmed Al Ansari, Director General of Civil Defense at Abu Dhabi, briefed the Secretary General on “Aqdar”, the Khalifa Student Empowerment Program. Moreover, Major General Al Nuaimi reviewed the outreach publications and brochures prepared by the Abu Dhabi General Directorate of Civil Defense which are distributed to various audiences in a bid to foster a culture of awareness around fire hazards.

The Secretary General additionally accompanied participants on a tour inside the Emirates Park Zoo, which included a briefing on the various types of animals at the zoo. The Emirates Park Zoo, home to more than 1700 species of animals, has become one of the UAE’s major touristic destinations. The zoo is a hub of education and entertainment for children and adults alike, with visitors hailing from all segments of society and from all over the world.
