Middle East attracts medical travel patients seeking life extension medicine

Dubai, UAE: The MENA region is now viewed by many as a thriving medical travel hub attracting patients from all over the globe seeking anti–aging and life extension medicine to improve and add longevity to their life. According to the Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital in Dubai, 27% of patients visiting the hospital during the summer come from outside the GCC and MENA regions, with 35% traveling from within the Middle East.

The International Medical Travel Conference and Exhibition (IMTEC)concluded today at the Dubai International Convention Centre. It showcased a number of world renowned medical facilities specialising in wellness and anti-aging treatments and procedures. Visitors to the exhibition had access to healthcare providers for treatments such as alternative therapies, anti-aging, arthritis and rheumatic diseases, bariatric surgery, cosmetic surgery,detox treatments, eye Lasik surgery, medical spas and more.

“Wellness and anti-aging treatments are considered aspects of life extension medicine which will be an avenue that will attract people from different countries to come to the Middle East.  To cater to this demand there is a need to further develop present facilities and create more wellness centres,” said Dr Abdulrazak Abyad, CEO, Abyad Medical Centre, Lebanon, and speaker at IMTEC.

According to market research conducted by Gulf Business Consulting, the United Arab Emirates is the largest medical spa & surgery clinic services market in the GCC region, more specifically Dubai is the city with one of the highest concentrations of spas and clinics per capita in the world.

Cocoona Aesthetic & Day Surgical Centre in Dubai was one of the regional aesthetic facilities that showcased their medical travel packages to the exhibitions visitors at IMTEC and welcomed patients seeking consultation on any medical concern. “We provided prospective patients with guidance on plastic surgery procedures. Patients met our specialists and got valuable direction on their expectations and clarified any myths surrounding cosmetic procedures,” says Dr Sanjay Parashar, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and CEO, Cocoona Aesthetic & Day Surgical centre.
