Dubai-UAE: 22 November, 2016 – According to a study by the Abu Dhabi Health Authority the overall cancer incidence amongst women was 54.5% while the cancer incidence amongst men was comparatively lower at 45.5%.
“If detected early cancer can be better managed and ultimately beaten,” said Dr. Shiva Harikrishnan, Consultant Obstetrician and Laparoscopic Gynecologist at Medeor 24×7 Hospital, Dubai. “Regular screenings with healthcare professionals can result in the detection and removal of precancerous growths and early diagnosis which greatly increases the chances of treating the cancer. More often than not, the reason for the late diagnosis of cancers and other illnesses is due to poor awareness. Medeor 24×7 Hospital, Dubai has launched the MomME Clinic in order to raise awareness and make women more conscious of their health as mothers especially are the pillars of society.
The MomME Clinic, launched at Medeor 24×7 Hospital, Dubai a premier multispecialty hospital located in the heart of Dubai, will be headed by Dr. Shiva and Dr. Mohammad Rashid, Specialist Pediatrician. The clinic will provide a holistic care experience for both mother and child and will include pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, neonatal care unit, play area, antenatal classes, yoga and counselling sessions.
“Mothers are rarely proactive about their health and wellness. They spend so much time providing the very best of care for their children and little realize one of the most important things they can give their child is taking care of their own health,” said Dr. Shiva. “At Medeor 24×7 Hospital, Dubai we sought to bring pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology and the neonatal care unit under one roof in the hope that while seeking medical attention for their child mothers too will be able to consult a Doctor on any health troubles they might have.“
To launch the clinic, Medeor 24×7 Hospital approached 4 children from 4 different age groups to ask them first what their mother does for them when they are sick and then what they do for their mother when she falls sick. While the kids had plenty to say about how their mother takes care of them, they all emphatically declared that their mother doesn’t fall sick.
“There’s this notion that mothers are super women and don’t fall ill because they battle through sickness and health to provide the best for their children,” Dr. Shiva continued. “We hope to challenge this notion and encourage mothers to take measures to prevent serious ailments later in life.”
“Mothers are the strongest pillar in a family and ultimately our societies. We hope through the MomME clinic to encourage them to be more aware of their health in order to prevent the onset of a disease and illness in life. More often than not they only seek medical advice when it is too late,” said Dr. Mohammed Berer, the Medical Director at Medeor 24×7 Hospital, Dubai.
