Hundreds of Cabbies receive Iftar packages at RAK Hospital annual drive

Free eye screening and consultation for the drivers announced during the Ramadan event

Acknowledging the physical strain that a taxi driver experiences during a day’s work, RAK Hospital is offering free eye screening to all the cabbies in Ras Al Khaimah through its successful ‘Nazar Ayeni’programme. The initiative was announced at the annual Iftar distribution held yesterday evening where the Hospital gifted Iftar packages to hundreds of cab drivers across the emirate.

Post screening, cabbies who require medical intervention can follow up with free consultation with a Specialist Ophthalmologist at RAK Hospital.

Dr Raza Siddiqui, CEO of Arabian Healthcare Group and Executive Director, RAK Hospital, commented: “The annual gifting of Iftar packages to the cab drivers in Ras Al Khaimah is our very small token of appreciation for their untiring services. These are the people who often leave behind their families in their native countries while easing mobility for us. At the same time, we would like to remind them to take better care of their health and the free eye screening is just part of the process. For a driver, few capabilities are more precious than a good eye sight, and for cab drivers who are not only responsible for their own safety but that of their passengers as well, sharp vision is a pre-requisite.”

The ‘NazarAyeni’ initiative is a mobile eye-screening for Prevention of Preventable Blindness programme. The main objective is to ensure an eye checkup/ screening for all the residents of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah over a period of time and to identify the cases where the residents would require further eye treatment in order to avoid preventable blindness.

RAK Hospital, the premier healthcare institution in the northern emirates, conducts several CSR activities. The hospital has organized many wellness activities, screening camps, competitions, lectures and workshops to engage the UAE residents to create and adopt a healthier and fulfilling lifestyle.
