Dubai, U.A.E – November 2016: LEO Pharma, an independent, research-based pharmaceutical company hosted the largest Dermatology Summit in the GCC to discuss holistic solutions in skincare. Among those in attendance were local and international dermatologists and skincare experts who discussed the importance of empowering patients to take control and manage their skin conditions. The event was held at The Address Hotel – Dubai Marina, on the 11th & 12th of November 2016.
Speaking at the conference, Dr. Hisham Omar, Senior Director – GCC, Leo Pharma, said, “We strive to increase a patient’s quality of life by helping them achieve healthy skin. It’s encouraging to see industry experts, researchers, high ranked doctors & opinion leaders come together and share a common objective. Only by working together and eliminating the stigma associated with skin disease can we make a real-life difference to patients.’’
Skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and acne, collectively affect millions of patients across all age groups each year, and can also have a devastating effect on a person’s psychological wellbeing. Many people with a skin condition tend to experience a decreased sense of body image, have low self-esteem, feel anxious about people judging them and generally withdraw from social interactions.
Dr Anwar Al Hammadi, Consultant and Head of Dermatology at the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), said, “It is vital to increase awareness about the various skin diseases among the community, this will help in better acceptance and understanding. Initiatives such as the Dermatology Summit, enable patients to understand that skin conditions can be managed effectively through treatment and a healthy lifestyle. By adapting to an ever-changing environment, patients can lead normal lives.”
