Abu Dhabi, 4 November 2015: A healthy baby boy named Hesham was welcomed to the world on October 28th by a team of doctors from Danat Al Emarat, the first private purpose-built women and children’s hospital in Abu Dhabi. The baby, son of a Jordanian couple residing in the capital, was the first child to be born at the hospital.
“It is always a great privilege to bring a baby into this world. To do this in a truly unique, world-class specialty hospital, entirely designed with women and children in mind, certainly is an added bonus. I am thankful for the trust placed in our hospital and our physicians by our patients and pleased to be a part of such an important milestone”, said Dr. Rihan Saafan, Consultant Obstetrics and Gynecology, who was involved in the first Danat Al Emarat delivery together with Dr. Fareeda Jahangir, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Fetal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Merlyne Acedilla, Specialist Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Maha Eldohemy, Pediatrician, and Eman Al Derbashi, Midwife.
The patient, Hala Mohammed Abu Shanab, chose the Danat Al Emarat team to take her through her fourth pregnancy. She received combined care from key specialists before and after birth, including the guidance of a nutritionist and a lactation consultant during the days she stayed at the hospital.
“I am very thankful to the entire Danat Al Emarat team who took care of me throughout this incredible journey. I was hoping to deliver in the hospital and I am thrilled to be the first. I’ll be back soon with Hesham as his Pediatrician is also from Danat Al Emarat. So glad to have such a great hospital to turn to for all my family’s needs here in Abu Dhabi,” said the proud mom.
A total of three babies were born at Danat Al Emarat during the last week of October and 30 additional deliveries are already planned for November.

We hope to welcome many more babies into this world and provide the much needed support for moms before, during and after delivery. Owned by UEMedical and managed by ParkwayHealth, Danat Al Emarat was set-up as a one-stop-shop which includes centers of excellence in obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, neonatology, surgery, woman diagnostic and breast imaging, as well comprehensive outpatient services in general and internal medicine, a 24 hour walk-in clinic, laboratory and imaging, and a fully-fledged level II and III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that can care for babies born prematurely. Danat Al Emarat opened its doors to patients back in August 2015.
