Aster DM Healthcare set to unveil female empowerment program “Tahseen” at Arab Health Exhibition & Congress 2016

“Tahseen” at Arab Health Exhibition & Congress 2016Dubai, UAE, 19/1/2016 – For more than four decades, the Arab Health Exhibition & Congress has been supporting the region’s medical community and is regionally recognised as an important platform that supports female professionals in the healthcare industry. At this year’s edition, platinum sponsor Aster DM Healthcare will announce the winner of its Tahseen program which focuses on improving, enhancing and developing the true potential of Arab women, in particular that of Emirati women.

Women are under-represented in the workforce with recent figures from the International Monetary Fund showing the gender gap in the Middle East is three times bigger than that in most developing economies.1 Female labour market participation rates in the GCC are among the lowest in the world, with just 20 percent of Emirati women in employment.2 Interestingly, careers in healthcare hold high appeal to local women, with five female students to every one male student enrolled to study medicine at the UAE University.3

Entrusting women with positions of responsibility, while training them for managerial and entrepreneurial skills, is a mutually beneficial arrangement; allowing for more compassionate care of patients while at the same time empowering Arab women with career enhancing capabilities.

“Through the newly launched Tahseen program, our aim is to provide selected Emirati and Arab women with the opportunity to develop, build on and further apply their talent and abilities, whilst enhancing their competencies, knowledge, innovation and drive,” explains Ms. Alisha Moopen, Executive Director & CEO – Hospitals & Clinics, GCCat Aster DM Healthcare. “This policy is spearheaded by the country’s leadership and backed by the UAE Constitution – it is in this spirit that we have created Tasheen to help develop the true potential of Arab women.”

In its inaugural year, Tasheen, launched in December 2015, has so far supported and accelerated the career growth of three women from its organisation who have been fast-tracked for leadership roles. This comes as part of the programs purpose to further empower and develop Arab Women by providing in-depth business exposure, leadership training and the opportunity for them to work with and learn from top associates within the organisation.

Aside from the program’s aim of attracting and developing local talent, Tasheen is also providing a catalyst for the selected Arab women to seek out challenging and rewarding leadership roles that offer fulfilment, economic empowerment and actively contribute towards the industry as well as the Nation’s future success. Overall, Tasheen will assist in bequeathing a legacy for a good and healthy future for the upcoming generations of aspiring leaders. The winner of this wave of the ongoing program will be announced at Arab Health.

“The remarkable abilities and leadership skills of women in the UAE and across the region has seen them drive the healthcare industry to new heights time and time again,” said Simon Page, Managing Director, Informa Life Sciences Exhibitions – the organisers of Arab Health. “Arab Health provides an opportunity for female healthcare professionals to come together to network, exchange knowledge and experience, and highlight their significant contribution to the healthcare industry. As such, it gives us great pleasure to provide this important platform to help encourage the number of women holding and seeking out key roles across within the industry,” he added.

Arab Health Exhibition & Congress 2016 will be held at Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre, 25th –28th January, is the region’s largest and the world’s second largest healthcare congress and exhibition.
