Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum

The American University in the Emirates recently held the 2nd International Conference on Sports Management and Law. Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the two day event was held at the University campus in Dubai Academic City and saw many speakers and experts gather to discuss on various related topics. The start of the event saw many important officials who had more to discuss in the respective field. Headed by His Highness Prince Talal Bin Badr bin Saud, Chairman of the Arab Sports Council, the forum also welcomed His Excellency Ibrahim Abdul Malik, Secretary General of the Youth and Sports Welfare Authority, Major Gen. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Mr. Khalaf Al Qubaisi Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees

A number of international speakers and experts also gave an insight about the various topics that included the importance of sports, the increase in awareness of sports in terms of management legislation and governance, and the role of educational institutions within the UAE in improving these attributes associated with a wide range of sports.

During the event, Dr Muthanna Ghani Abdul Razzaq, President of the American University in the Emirates welcomed special guests and leading practitioners stating, “Sports as a subject is no less important than any other subjects, and although most of us are really interested in sports, we have yet to give it the importance it deserves. A lot of Arab students are making a name in fields like engineering, and mathematical studies etc. but we rarely hear of our players making as much of a name in the field.”

“Our ultimate goal is to create an outstanding sports team and see their names at international and local stadiums. We want to encourage and establish this importance in the minds of our students and potential sports stars of tomorrow. The fact that there is theory and practical’s in this field is not enough. We need to refine the personal skills that once combined with innovation, creativity and excellence brings what it truly stands for.” He added.

A number of senior researchers, practitioners, experts and academic scientists participated to exchange their knowledge and experience on Sports Management. The focus during the event was laid on topics like “Challenges faced by Arab Sports”, “Cooperation between Arab Olympic Committees and Academia” and “Strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading global sport business and investment destination”.
