Al Baraha Hospital provides 217 employees with free medical examination – Ministry of Health & Prevention (MOHAP) organizes event on the occasion of World Hypertension Day

UAE, June 5, 2017 – Al Baraha Hospital organized and event to celebrate World Hypertension Day, launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017 to raise awareness about the importance of detecting and treating high blood pressure at an early stage. The event was also organized in adherence with the declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving, to achieve the vision of Al Baraha Hospital and the Ministry of Health & Prevention (MOHAP), to provide the UAE with distinguished health services, according to the highest international standards, while working to combat and raise awareness about the risks of high blood pressure. The program featured blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol tests, in addition to offering nutritional advice and medical consultations for 217 employees of Al Naboodah Construction Company, including 168 males and 48 females. Participants were also provided with free snacks.

Studies have shown that 4 out 10 adults suffer from high blood pressure, which often goes undiagnosed. Hypertension is the main cause for cardiovascular disease. The risk of suffering from a stroke is four times higher in patients with high blood pressure. The risk of myocardial infraction is also twice as high in patients with high blood pressure. These risks increase as blood pressure increases. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of developing diseases. Individuals are encouraged to exercise regularly to shed excess weight, reduce their intake of unsaturated fats, while consuming more unsaturated fats, reduce their salt intake, and avoid drinking alcohol.
