Burjeel Hospital For Advanced Surgery (BHAS) Marks Another Milestone With The Introduction Of Breakthrough Treatments For Foot And Ankle Conditions
Dr. Krishna Prasad Meda may look like your regular doctor, but the UK Board Certified orthopaedic consultant’s breakthrough treatments for foot and ankle conditions, not only help alleviate pain, but also treat what causes that pain – its actual origin.
“Your feet are an integral part of your everyday life, and as such they experience a lot of wear and tear. In fact, it’s estimated that you’ll likely have walked 75,000 miles by the age of 50. As anyone who suffers from painful feet or ankles would know how hard it is to enjoy life when it hurts just to take a step or two. To avoid the discomfort, it is essential to consult a doctor as soon as some distress is experienced,” said Dr. Meda, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon – Specialising in Foot & Ankle Surgery at Burjeel Hospital of Advanced Surgery (BHAS).
In his expansive career spanning 25 years, Dr. Meda has seen and advised over 30,000 patients in clinic, out of which more than 18,000 have been patients in foot and ankle clinics. He’s operated on more than 9000 patients in total and has performed 6000-foot ankle surgeries as a consultant. In addition, he’s performed 1500 bunion surgeries and more than 300 ankle replacements.
According to Dr. Meda one in four people over the age of 50 years suffer from foot pain, stiffness or aching feet. The most common conditions that grip patients are bunions, ankle pain, midfoot and flat foot. While a bunion may be a bump on the side of your big toe, you can experience ankle pain either from ankle sprains or from arthritic changes. The midfoot pain is concerned with the middle of the foot where the small tarsal bones are located, whereas a flat foot refers to the lack of arch in your foot when standing. It’s estimated that about 30 percent of people have fallen arches, or flat feet. Low arches can cause more problems than you may realize in addition to tired, achy and swollen feet. It is observed that flat arches can bring on hammertoes, tendonitis and arthritis.
“People who wear high heels and pointy toe shoes are at a considerably higher risk to develop foot and ankle conditions. However, some of them are also genetic, and climate can also be a determining factor for some. While bunions are most commonly observed with people over 30-40 years, flat foot is common with people aged 40-50 years. Ankle sprain is a common problem for all ages, however, it is patients over 60 years of age who opt for ankle replacements,” added Dr. Meda.
“Each foot condition is different. As such, there is no one-size fits treatment for any patient. At BHAS, we not only offer advanced treatment options to patients with foot and ankle concerns, but also lead the effort to bring innovative and specialised technologies to the hospital which showcase about 90-95 percent success rates while restoring the lives of our patients,” concluded Dr. Meda.
Burjeel Hospital of Advanced Surgery has always been a beacon of quality healthcare and with the introduction of advanced treatments for foot and ankle conditions, the hospital will not just accelerate its pace of innovation, but also steer ahead of its game.
