NYU Abu Dhabi faculty receives Lifetime Achievement Award in Computer Science

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Computer Science Program Head Godfried Toussaint has received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Computer Science from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Computer Science (CS-Can/Info-Can). This award recognizes Canadian faculty’s significant achievements in the areas of research, teaching or service throughout their academic career, and is granted on an annual basis.

Professor and Program Head of Computer Science, Toussaint is also an affiliate researcher in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA, USA. He is a founder and co-founder of several annual international conferences and workshops, including the ACM Symposium on Computational Geometry and the Canadian Conference on Computational Geometry.

Toussaint is an editor of several journals including Computational Geometry: Theory and Applications, the International Journal of Computational Geometry and Applications, ISRN Geometry, and the Journal of Mathematics and the Arts.

Since joining NYUAD in 2011, Toussaint has been involved in several interdisciplinary research projects involving faculty and students at NYUAD, NYU New York, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Over the past seven years, together with more than a dozen undergraduate students at NYUAD, he has also been involved in a number of research projects pertaining to computational geometry, image processing, machine learning, visual perception, and auditory perception of musical rhythms.

The awards ceremony took place yesterday, May 7, at York University in Toronto, Canada.
