The collaborating center offers training and educational services to healthcare professionals from Bahrain.
Gulf Medical University and AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders, known as American Academy Holdings, LLC) Collaborating Center has signed an agreement with the Supreme Council of Health, Kingdom of Bahrain to offer Medical Terminology and Medical Coding courses to 23 healthcare professionals from 3 hospitals, to support development of health workforce in Bahrain.
The agreement was signed online by HE Dr. Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman, Supreme Council of Health Kingdom of Bahrain, Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor Gulf Medical University and Dan Schwebach Senior Vice President AAPC (represented by Dr. Ali Hadi, Director of education AAPC Dubai) on 29th March 2021. During the online meeting Prof. Hossam Hamdy thanked His Excellency Dr.Shaikh Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa for choosing Gulf Medical University to partner with the Supreme Council of Health in addressing the needs of health workforce development of the Kingdom of Bahrain. His Excellency shared his happiness on the occasion and hoped that more training programs will be conducted in association with GMU.
Based on the understanding of the needs from Supreme Council of Health, Kingdom of Bahrain AAPC through Gulf Medical University, Ajman will assist in providing ICD-10-AM / ACHI medical coding training for select staff. Gulf Medical University, as a Collaborating Center for AAPC in the region, will facilitate the delivery of the course through AAPC, said Dan Schwebach Senior Vice President AAPC.
AAPC uses a vocational skills training approach to prepare students as professional medical coders. Our structured program will be divided into 2 training phases, Training Phase and Validation Phase. The training course will focus on teaching coding conventions and guidelines so that students have the skills necessary to properly prepare and code medical services for claims processing. The course is focused on teaching principles of medical coding related to the Australian Coding Classification Standards for ICD-10-AM and ACHI.
On Completion of Course, they will have the necessary skills and knowledge to challenge the Australian medical coding certification exam conducted by AAPC. Successfully passing this exam, students will be awarded the CHC-A Credential (Certified Hospital Coder – Australia) by AAPC.
