Febrile diseases with rash are common presentations in Family Medicine Clinic and in Pediatrics Clinic. It is known that most of these presentations are mild and self limited and easy to be managed but some other presentations are very serious and sometimes are fatal and life threatening of the patient and need urgent medical intervention.

Chicken Pox (Varicella)

Fever accompanied by rash may be caused by:

• Bacteria: Menngitis,Typhoid and Scarlet fever, Spirochetes causes Syphilis and Rickettsia causes Epidemic Typhus
• Viruses:Chicken pox, Measles, German measles and Glandular fever
• Unknowncause(Fever For Investigations).

History is very important to know about:

• duration of the symptoms and signs
• also any exposure that causes this condition like information about contact with patient that had the same condtion,
• or history of traveling to endemic disease country or immigrant from other countries,
• or intake of drugs (Pencllin,Sulpha…etc.),
• or exposure to animals: snakes bite or scorpion sting,
• or exposure to insects stings: bees, mosquto, flies and ticks (Rocky Mountain Spotted fever and Lyme Disease).
• or vaccinations recently as many vaccine of preventable diseases can cause fever and rash like Measles vaccine, Rubella (German Measles) vaccine and varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccine.

Measles

General physical examination is very important with skin examination also.

Findings of the examinations of the patient can lead directly to know the diagnosis, causative agent and suspected progress and complications. For example: presence of fever with skin rash and exudative pharyngitis may suggest Scarlet fever caused by streptococcus group A infection.

Also in case of abnormal chest examination findings with skin vesicles may lead to diagnose Chicken pox (Varicella) as spot diagnosis.
