Having our hair done is not something we ladies always look forward to with the endless hours in the salon and the waiting. But at the unique SoH Art+Beauty Centre, the usual humdrum is a thing of the past as this is concept salon is more than a place to get your nails or hair done, but instead is a mini cultural hub where art, fashion, and beauty all come together.
Located at the Galleria Mall in Jumeirah, SoH is an expansive space in all white, emanating a culturally on-trend art gallery that regularly showcases various international as well as regional artists, with the work of Amsterdam-based artist Max Zorn on display when I visited.
The experience began with a consultation where senior stylist Anna checked my hair thoroughly and then explained she would do an Olaplex treatment, a roots touchup and then an overall toning instead of full color to prevent further damage to my already chemically damaged hair. Olaplex, explained Anna, was created in the U.S. and has quite a celebrity fan following; from Jennifer Lopez to Gwyneth Paltrow. It basically works to strengthen and repair the bonds within the hair shaft which are broken during hair coloring and heating. This is exactly what I needed as an emergency anecdote to my frizzy and super dry hair. The Olaplex treatment is first mixed with water to make a paste and applied for 7 minutes. Afterwards, it was rinsed and slightly blow-dried just to remove traces of excess water. Next, an Olaplex masque was applied for 20 minutes to close the cuticles. After this was rinsed, an ash color was applied to cover my roots and then next, a toner was applied to not only boost my fading hair color, but also to impart shine and give a great tone without the damage associated with bleach. After it was all shampooed out, I noticed an immediate difference to my hair. It felt silky, soft, and elastic after a very long time. The ends were trimmed, the fringe evened out, and the roots given a very minimal blending to create a final look that was
much fresher and stylish than when I had walked in.
