Art Project’s fourth edition runs from 19-26 November 2018
The fourth edition of the Art Project, organized by Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah, a subsidiary of Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Leaders and Innovators, will be conducted from 19th until 26th November. This year’s theme is ‘Conceptual Art’ and will be conducted by artist, Eva Vevere.
25 participants will be taking part from various organizations including Sharjah Children, Sharjah Youth, Sharjah Girl Guides, and Sajaya Young Ladies.
The term ‘conceptual art’ is a notion in which the idea involved in the work takes precedence over aesthetics, technicality, and material concerns. That’s essentially the goal of this edition’s art project, to instill creativity and out-of-the-box thinking among its participants.
The art project workshop will focus on specific key themes each day, which are time, sound, movement, memory, and links. The first day’s goal encourages participants to play with personal knowledge and existing concepts related to time. The second day’s goal converts sound experience into visual art, where participants will listen to different sounds and draw from inspiration.
The third day investigates how movement creates visual response, where participants connect body conditions to the mind. The fourth day immerses participants into subjectivity where they connect meanings and stories to their belongings. The fifth day enables participants to draw links between people, subject, and themes.
The sixth day is the selection day, where students are divided into groups and each are given one day’s material and work with one specific theme. On the last day, students will finalize the work and figure out the space for exhibition and installation to create the best experience for visitors.
Sheikha Aisha Khalid Al Qasimi, Director of Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah, said, “The Art Project is aiming at educating our members on the latest techniques of creative contemporary arts, including drawing, painting, installation, collage, comics and many more.”
“This year, our young members will be trained on conceptual art, also known as Conceptualism, a form of art in which the concept is more important than the artwork. Conceptual artists translate their ideas into artworks that express and communicate their message.”
Sajaya Young Ladies of Sharjah is a leading organisation dedicated to developing the talents of young girls in the age group of 13-18 years in all creative spheres. Established in 2004 under the umbrella of Sharjah Children’s Centres before it became an independent entity in 2012 following an administrative decree from Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation.
