On October 10, the official opening ceremony of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics will take place in Dubai. The project was completed in less than a year, underscoring the university’s commitment to expanding its presence in the rapidly developing region of the Middle East and North Africa. This opening represents a significant step in strengthening educational ties between Russia and the UAE, highlighting Dubai’s status as a global center for innovation and trade.
The academic year for students commenced on September 16, and they are already deeply engaged in their studies. Bachelor’s students in “Finance” and “Marketing” are mastering corporate finance and marketing strategies, while master’s students in “Corporate Finance” and “Digital Business” are focused on growth strategies and fintech innovations. Upon graduation, they will receive two diplomas — one from Russia and one from the UAE, enhancing their competitiveness in the international job market.
Svetlana Malkarova, Director of the Plekhanov Russian University in Dubai, noted that the establishment of the branch was made possible through the support of colleagues in the UAE and a highly qualified teaching staff. The uniqueness of the new university is further emphasized by the opening of a Research, Innovation, and Sustainable Development Center, which has already received accreditation from the UAE Ministry of Education. This center will support both fundamental and applied research, addressing the economic and social needs of the UAE.
Following the opening ceremony, a business session titled “International Formats of Workforce Training in the Data Economy” will take place. This session will discuss the timely updating of educational programs and active collaboration between universities and global market players. Representatives from the governments of Russia and the UAE, state corporations, and research centers are invited to participate in the discussion, highlighting the significance of this event for the further development of education in both countries.
