Mubadala and Abu Dhabi Sports Council Celebrate Champions of the Mubadala Community Football League

Mubadala Investment Company and Abu Dhabi Sports Council have celebrated the champions of the third edition of the Mubadala Community Football League in a special award ceremony at the National Stadium of Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.

Al Shamkha saw victory in the Abu Dhabi competition with a 3 – 2 penalty kicks win over Hafeet, while Eastern Roudha topped the league in Al Ain with a 3 -1 win over their rivals Al Sarooj. The championship trophies were handed over to Al Shamkha and Eastern Roudha teams by Homaid Al Shimmari, Deputy Group CEO and Chief Corporate & Human Capital Officer of Mubadala Investment Company.

During the ceremony, leading players were also recognized with Mohamed Saad from al Taweela Team receiving the top goal-scorer accolade for the Abu Dhabi league, having netted an impressive tally of 25 goals. Mohamed Al Faris from Al Saad Team recorded 22 goals during the Al Ain league, winning the award.

Emanuel Tetth from Al Ruwais Team won the best goalkeeper award of the Abu Dhabi league and Mohamed Sahel from Eastern Roudha Team record the best goalkeeper award of Al Ain competition.

Homaid Al Shimmari, said: “We would like to congratulate all the champions of the third edition of Mubadala Community Football League in both Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and thank all the participating players for their commitment and sportsmanship throughout, both on and off the field. The success that the league has achieved in inspiring and empowering young people in our communities to come together and play football while living healthier lives, has extended well beyond the pitch and now we look forward for another successful season next year.”

H.E Aref Hamad Al Awani, said: “We are thrilled of another success of the Mubadala Community Football League. The number of participating teams and interactions in the third edition was a strong evidence of the popularity of the tournament and its positive impact on youth. With our partners at Mubadala, we will continue to support and develop its presence each season and encourage all segments of society to practice sports and getting motivated to follow a daily and healthy lifestyle. We look forward to strengthening these principles and objectives in the next season as well.”

The Mubadala Community Football League, which was hosted in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, kicked off in October last year and continued until May 2019 with 1600 players in total including 48 teams from Abu Dhabi and 18 teams from Al Ain.

Aside from the final matches of Mubadala Community Football League 2018-2019, fans had the opportunity to enjoy a line-up of family fun activities at the world-class sport and entertainment destination, Zayed Sports City. The one-day free festival included interactive workshops, arts & crafts, food trucks, football freestyle performances and various sport activations for all ages to enjoy.
