Dubai, UAE: Medyaf, the industry nationalization division within the Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), part of Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism, has commenced its winter training program, which aims to provide participants the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills over the winter period, and also obtain a training certificate.
The programme, which will be conducted via the remote learning system, will continue over three weeks during the winter break for schools. It will be held in three batches with the first batch of students concluding their training on 16 December. The second batch will conclude on 23 December, and the third will be held from 26-30 December. Designed to appeal to students who are interested in starting a career in the tourism industry, the programme features virtual interactive activities and training sessions covering a variety of topics such as introduction to tourism, tour guides, hospitality, retail and entrepreneurship presented by experts from DCT and guest speakers representing industry partners including Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Dubai Culture, Hilton, Chalhoub Group, Infinity des Lumières and Dubai Entrepreneurship Academy.
Mariam Al Maeeni, Director of Industry Nationalisation at DCT, said: “We are committed to empowering young talent, and these training programmes will provide students with a productive way of spending their school holidays as they start to consider their future career options. The latest training programme follows the successful training initiatives that took place during previous school breaks, providing opportunities for students to further enhance their ability to prepare for and succeed in today’s competitive work environment.”
Medyaf aims to attract and train Emiratis for suitable careers in the tourism sector to help further enhance the destination offering and visitor experience. To achieve this, Medyaf develops specialised courses and training programmes specifically designed for Emiratis to enhance their capabilities and hone their skills, and to enable them to be a part of the next generation tourism workforce.
