Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), part of Mubadala’s network of healthcare providers, has again been recognized for its continuous provision of high standards of care and safety to patients in the UAE.
The Centre has received for the 4th time the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal of Approval®, an accreditation and certification focused on adherence to outstanding standards of care and patient safety outcomes, at the Centre’s three branches in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
ICLDC has been at the forefront of international accreditation in the country for some time since it became the first healthcare provider worldwide in 2010 to receive both the JCI Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) for Diabetes Management and the JCI Accreditation for Ambulatory Care. At the same time, it also became the first facility in the Middle East and the third around the world to hold JCI’s highly-acclaimed CCPC specifically for the clinical management of diabetes mellitus.
Lawrence Patrick, Chief Executive Officer of ICLDC said: “This international recognition is a very important achievement and accolade for everyone here at ICLDC. It bears testament to our commitment to our patients and to easing the burden of diabetes, in line with the National Agenda, by adhering to the highest standards in research, training, and management and prevention of this chronic disease.
“Diabetes has taken a major toll on our society and we are relentless in our dedication to tackle this disease by providing safe and high-quality care to our patients, and developing and implementing strategies to drive sustained improvement of our structure, processes and services.”
The prestigious certification was achieved following a comprehensive on-site survey, that took place between 21 and 27 February, by JCI surveyors who evaluated the compliance of ICLDC’s branches in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi with internationally approved healthcare standards that define the performance expectations, structures, and functions that must be in place for accreditation. The standards and their measurable elements relate to medical and and administrative quality and are divided into two main sections, which are patient-centered care and health care organization management.
“The JCI methodology is designed to improve and enhance patient safety and the quality of care. It also aims to empower change within healthcare organizations by providing relevant education and training to implement global best-practices. This certification mirrors our hospital’s continuous adherence to the highest standards of safety and patient-centered care in addition to its efforts to continuously improve its processes in its quest to improve outcomes and tackle a disease that has become a national priority,” Lawrence added.
JCI is the world’s largest health-care accrediting agency that evaluates organizations in more than 90 countries and supports them to excel in providing safe and effective care.
