The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is taking part in the celebrations for UAE Innovation Month in February by organising a series of exciting events and initiatives to showcase DCT Abu Dhabi’s latest technological applications.

The annual showcase, which will be returning after last year’s successful month-long run, will celebrate how cutting-edge thinking is supporting the UAE’s national innovation strategy.
DCT Abu Dhabi’s involvement in UAE Innovation Month includes participation in the Abu Dhabi Science Festival, which is organised by Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK).

DCT Abu Dhabi will have its own booth at the festival, where innovative technological projects will be showcased. Here, the robot ‘Murshed’ will interact with the public and carry out different science experiments. DCT’s Innovation and Smart Technologies Department will also present its ‘Galaxy Heroes’ initiative, where it adopted the concept of ‘Gamification’ to enhance employees’ productivity and increase customer and employees’ satisfaction. There will also be Virtual Reality (VR) Experiences to boost visitors’ awareness of Abu Dhabi’s different attractions through a playlist of 360° VR videos. All these will be on show at the Science Festival at A’l Bahar on Abu Dhabi Corniche from Thursday, 31 January to Saturday, 9 February from 4pm to 10pm Sunday to Thursday, and 2pm to 10pm on Friday and Saturday.

Also students’ robotics projects that were shortlisted through the Steam-Powered Technopreneur Workshops will be on show at Abu Dhabi’s libraries.

At the DCT Auditorium on Thursday, February 7 from 10am to 1pm, other government entities have been invited to attend an awareness session to experience the Department’s innovations. These include implementing the Galaxy Heroes Gamification, which is a simulation of electronic games; the ‘chat bot’ that works as a virtual employee using artificial intelligence to support the Licensing System; as well as the Augmented Reality (AR) experience at Qasr Al Hosn, which narrates the story of Abu Dhabi and its deeply-rooted culture in an innovative and unique way.

Also, DCT Abu Dhabi’s Innovation and Smart Technologies Department will be running two days of technical training on Block chain for its employees on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 February.

Finally, the ‘Murshed’ robot will be touring DCT Libraries throughout the month where it will be simulating some of the roles usually carried out by human librarians, such as registering visitors, giving information and reading stories. This is the first phase of making ‘Murshed’ a fully integrated Librarian Robot. It will be at Khalifa Park Library from Sunday, 17 to Thursday, 21 February and then Al Ain Central Library from Sunday, 24 to Thursday, 28 February.
