  • The program introduces reproductive, memory and mental health.
  • Additional cancer screenings, enhancing early detection through more personalized services.

Abu Dhabi, UAE: Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has announced a major expansion of its comprehensive screening program, IFHAS, introducing a series of enhancements that reflect the evolving health needs of the emirate’s population. The new update emphasises accessibility, early detection, and holistic wellness, further cementing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to proactive, community-centered preventive care.

In expanding the programme, ADPHC once again highlights the role of early detection in reducing the burden of disease, enabling early intervention, and supporting better health outcomes and quality of life – particularly in the case of chronic conditions and cancers. Through routine screenings, health issues can be identified at the earliest and most treatable stages, often before symptoms appear.

His Excellency Dr. Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, said: “The IFHAS programme is a key part of our public health strategy, empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being and placing them on the path towards healthy longevity, through early detection, smarter screening tools, and person-centered care. These updates are strategic enhancements that reflect the shifting health needs of our population and bring us closer to achieving a healthier Abu Dhabi. By adding tailored services, from mental and reproductive health screenings to non-invasive colorectal cancer tests, IFHAS continues our mission of proactive, person-centered prevention.”

Reproductive health, cancer, and mental health screenings

Among the most notable enhancements are the introduction of a dedicated Reproductive Health Screening and newly launched Memory Testing services. Reproductive health screening for both men and women aged 20–35 will support individuals in their fertility journey and align with broader government initiatives to address fertility. Meanwhile, Memory Testing has been introduced, starting at age 50 to help identify cognitive changes early and support long-term brain health.

Another important update is the introduction of Clinical Breast Examinations (CBE) for women aged 20–39. This enhancement reflects ADPHC’s data-driven approach and commitment to adjusting global screening standards intelligently, to better suit the specific needs and patterns observed within Abu Dhabi’s population. It ensures that women have access to earlier consultations and evaluations, supporting timely guidance and peace of mind, especially as early detection remains one of the most effective tools in improving outcomes.

Vision screening has been expanded to include both ophthalmologist consultations and advanced retinal imaging, which can help detect signs of serious conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration, improving the quality and depth of eye health assessment.

Screening services now also include Complete Blood Count (CBC) testing, a simple but powerful tool that can uncover several underlying conditions including iron deficiency and anemia, enabling earlier and more accurate diagnosis of issues that may otherwise go unnoticed.

In addition, mental health screenings now include assessments for anxiety, which has been newly added to the program, in addition to the previously included depression screening.

These strategic enhancements reflect ADPHC’s continued mission to adapt healthcare services to the specific needs of Abu Dhabi’s society. By integrating evidence-based innovation with person-centered design, IFHAS delivers early, appropriate, and accessible screening services to every eligible resident.

Supporting the UAE’s vision for a resilient health system

The expansion of IFHAS aligns with the UAE’s broader healthcare strategy, which prioritises disease prevention, population health, and sustainable access to care. ADPHC plays a central role in realising this vision by implementing initiatives that reduce the long-term burden of disease and strengthen the healthcare ecosystem.

ADPHC continues to reaffirm the importance of regular health screenings and encourages greater participation in the IFHAS program. Eligible Thiqa cardholders aged 18 and above, are encouraged to book their screenings through the Sahatna app or approved healthcare providers.
