Daitona: Blazing a Trail in Innovative Cleaning
For any specialized professional organization, quality, training, service and competitiveness are a sure recipe for success – more so in an economy like Dubai. Daitona General Trading L.L.C. was set up in Dubai by Ahmadaly Fazal, the Managing Director and CEO, just before the Gulf War in 1991. He was following in the footsteps of his father, Late Habib Fazal who had sold his 2-year old cleaning items business in 1984 to migrate to Canada. In 2010, Ahmadaly Fazal was joined by his uncle and now Partner, Nizar Karmali, who is well-known in the institutional business. Today, Daitona General Trading employs 20 people who regularly undergo training in different subjects to keep them abreast with the industry. With his training background in a leading international organization, Karmali spends some of his time preparing course materials for training the Daitona team.
A strong start: In 1991, the product range was very limited. Daitona introduced TechnicalConcepts’ automatic air freshener dispensers and fragrance range. With increasing customer demand, the product portfolio kept increasing with many items added regularly. Fazal started contacting the manufacturers and exporters who his father used to deal with. All overseas suppliers extended their cooperation and facilities without any conditions. The first two Taiwanese companiesVita and Kach Sheng agreed to send a container load of items. The Italian companies, IPC Ready System, Mr. Brush, Aricasa and others gave exclusive distributor rights to Daitona and continue their cooperation till today. German company Coronet also recognized Daitona’s performance and agreed to have an exclusive distributorship. From Malaysia, Nozomi offered their fragrance range with automatic air freshener dispenser and paper dispensers.
The market then and now: The market today has transformed a lot since 1991. Facility Management companies are playing a key role in ensuring that quality cleaning items are being used with the latest trend being the micro-fibre systems. The tremendous growth of the country in a short span has brought about many professional facility management companies in the market. With severe competition and many players in the same business, the company’s market share has taken a slight hit. However, this is compensated by companies who have come to realize the value of good quality products and prompt service.
Versatile product range: Daitona also introduces innovations in the market. Recently, Brix trolleys and Cleano 70 from IPC Ready System were launched in Dubai amongst key personnel from the hospitality industry. Overall, the company deals in disposable paper hand wipes, consumer cleaning range and an institutional product range.
Staff, training and customer service: Daitona prides itself in looking after its people and promoting them as and when opportunities arise. A good example is of Rajesh Kumar P. S. who joined the company 18 years ago as a helper and is today the backbone of operations. Apart from the training courses by Karmali, the entire training team undergoes external training in different subjects. Daitona pays careful attention to customer service. Any product complaint is sorted out within hours, if not minutes. Due to this, Daitona finds that it has gained customer loyalty. Many of the items available carry a guarantee from six months to two years. Moreover, it only sells genuine products, which has also helped gain the customers’ trust.
