• Longest awareness ribbon and Most pairs attaching ribbons to each other simultaneously records set at Al Hudayriat Island

Abu Dhabi honored International Breast Cancer Awareness month by achieving two Guinness World Records titles during a community event held yesterday. The first record is for the Longest awareness ribbon, which was an astounding 4.1 KM in length. Additionally, during the event, which took place at Al Hudayriat Island, 762 people successfully participated to set a record for Most pairs attaching ribbons to each other simultaneously.

The event, which was organized by VPS Healthcare (VPS), one of the UAE’s leading healthcare groups, and Burjeel Medical City, a tertiary care facility specialized in oncology treatment, comes as part of a joint campaign known as ‘Health is wealth UAE’. Key event partners included the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), Abu Dhabi Municipality, Al Hudayriat Island, Emirates Foundation, Abu Dhabi Media Company, the Cancer Patient Care Society – Rahma, and Weber Shandwick MENA.

Residents and visitors gathered in Abu Dhabi to witness a Saturday full of surprises, complete with live entertainment, various fitness activities and food trucks. Alongside the main record-breaking spectacle, members of the public were invited to engage in a series of live record-breaking attempts—known as Guinness World Records LIVE! A live entertainment platform provided by Guinness World Records, participants had the chance to break records in real time. More than 2,000 people attended from across the Emirates and were offered opportunities to break individual records, including the fastest time for segregating ribbons pertaining to cancer awareness, the fastest time to dress up as a doctor, and the fastest time to complete a game of Operation by a team of two. Two new records were registered during the fun-filled evening, with the successful participants walking away with certificate of achievement for their accomplishment.

H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health commented: “It gives us great pleasure to work closely alongside a number of public and private entities to make this event a success. These partnerships reflect the importance of consolidating efforts to work together towards achieving a ‘Healthier Abu Dhabi’ and further bring Abu Dhabi in line with regional and international standards.”

Department of Health—Abu Dhabi (DoH) urges members of the community to conduct regular breast cancer check-ups and familiarize themselves with self-examination techniques to be able to detect early signs of the disease, thus improving chances of full recovery. In addition, DoH urges all members of the community to adopt preventative measures such as adopting a healthy lifestyle and maintaining regular physical activity to lower the incidence of disease.

Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and Managing Director of VPS Healthcare, commented: “We are thrilled to collaborate with our partners in reinforcing the UAE’s position as a regional and global role model in the healthcare sector. With the continued efforts of our partners, we have successfully achieved several Guinness World Records titles, and we are further empowering the Abu Dhabi brand on an international level. With the cooperation of our private-public partnerships, we have connected members of the community to raise awareness for tackling critical healthcare challenges.”

The record-breaking event took place as part of ‘Health is Wealth UAE’, a six-month cancer awareness campaign that will focus on highlighting some of the most prevalent and pressing types of cancer globally and in the UAE that threaten thousands of lives every day. The campaign is running in conjunction with the global cancer awareness calendar.

Mobile mammography clinics providing free screenings and mammograms will be available for the public in several areas around Abu Dhabi throughout October until November 8. During this period, the mobile clinic will make stops at various locations including: Burjeel Medical Center in Al Zeina, Mushrif Mall, Al Hudayriat Island, Abu Dhabi Police Headquarters, Yas Marina Circuit, DoH, ADNOC’s Sheikh Khalifa Energy Complex branch (Corniche), Yas Mall, Burjeel Royal Hospital in Al Ain, Emirates Foundation, and Borouge (Corniche).
