BATH TIME IS A MOMENT OF STIMULATION AND JOY; HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO MAKE IT INTO A BONDING EXPERIENCE.
- Bath water should be between 35⁰C and 37⁰C and bathing time should not exceed more than five to seven minutes.
- Use a product that is soap free, hypoallergenic and has a neutral pH, such as ABCDerm Moussant or H2O.
- Dry your baby’s skin by gently tapping it with a soft towel and make sure to dry the folds of the skin to avoid irritation.
- Apply a pH neutral hypoallergenic moisturizing care such as ABCDerm Hydrant. If your baby has very dry skin choose an ABCDerm Cold Cream and for atopic skin use Atoderm Intensive, to give skin lasting nourishment.
SKIN CARE TIPS FOR NAPPY RASH
Nappy rash is very common in babies, particularly when they’re between 9 and 12 months old. So, at some stage of parenthood, you’re likely to remove your baby’s nappy and be surprised with a rather tender-looking bottom. To keep nappy rash away, use ABC Derm Preventive cream to insulate the skin against stools and urine.
If your baby has nappy rash, you will be able to identify this if the skin looks red and inflamed where it’s been in close contact with the nappy. The rash will probably affect the genital area, the outer skin on the folds of the thighs, and the bottom. The affected areas can appear either dry or moist and may look shiny or pimply.
WHAT TO DO IF THERE IS ALREADY A RASH
- Keep your baby clean and dry by changing his/her nappy frequently. Try to do it as soon as possible after she’s wet or filled her nappy.
- Cleanse your baby’s bottom using a fragrance and alcoholfree product such as ABCDerm H2O or H2O wipes or the mild, moisturising cleanser ABCDerm Moussant. Rinse your baby’s bottom in plain water and pat the skin dry.
- Give your baby as much nappy-free time as possible, to allow the air to aid healing.
- At each nappy change, apply a thin layer of barrier cream such as ABCDerm Change Intensive before putting on a clean nappy to soothe, insulate and repair baby’s bottom.
SKIN CARE TIPS FOR MASSAGE
Massage is a beautiful way to express your love and care for your baby and through touches and looks, you can understand each other. Massage has many added benefits for your baby, including improving weight gain, aiding digestion, improving circulation, and easing teething pain. Massage is an exceptional way for parents to bond with their baby. Baby massage is gentle, rhythmic stroking of your baby’s body with your hands.
Here’s how to do it:
- Find a calm and comfortable location, such as a bed or a mat.
- The ambient temperature must be comfortable, around 26C.
- You can use relaxing baby oil such as ABCDerm Huile Douceur to help your hands to glide smoothly over your baby’s skin. Warm the oil and tell your baby that you will start the massage. Start massaging at the top (torso, arms, and tummy) then move downward (legs, foot arches) and finish with the back.
- To communicate to your baby that the massage is over, run your hands over his entire body two to three times, from head to foot
