The right way to clean your skin to prep it for products and also get rid of the day’s grime and oil can be confusing. To up your cleansing game, HEALTH meets with Clarisonic Co-founder Dr. Robb Akridge whose hugely popular cleansing device is a game changer in the way we take care of our skin.
Game Changer
“Clarisonic invented sonic cleansing in 2004, introducing for the first-time a new way to cleanse the skin that is six times more effective than cleansing with hands alone. People think they are cleansing their skin well enough with
hands alone, but Clarisonic’s patented technology helps people experience the benefits of truly clean, beautiful skin.”
Manual Cleansing versus Clarisonic “Clarisonic devices are so effective because its brush heads oscillate – or move back and forth – over 300 times per second, gently flexing the skin to loosen the stuff in your pores; this motion drives water off of the brush head bristles into the pores to flush them clean. This two-step approach is patented
and unique to Clarisonic and the reason why our products deliver effective results that dermatologists and customers equally love.”

Why Cleansing Matters
“Not having clean and balanced skin increases skin congestion and the accumulation of dirt and oil, which can lead to other issues including acne, blotchy and dry patchy skin. If your skin is clean, your skincare products will absorb
and work better and your makeup will look more even and beautiful.”
The Correct Way to Use the Clarisonic
“The best way to use the Clarisonic– as its waterproof– is in the shower where you can use a lot of water. First,
wet your face, wet the brush head, and then add your cleanser. Gently apply to your face and let it float across the skin for one minute. Don’t press hard; let the bristles do the work. Our devices have little beeps that tell you when to move on to a new part of your face – 20 seconds on your forehead, 20 seconds on your nose and chin and 10 seconds
per cheek. After you’re done cleansing, simply rinse your face and brush head. Now apply your skincare products as
usual.”
