Dubai, March 20th, 2016 – Dr. Michael’s Dental Clinic, the state of the art multi-specialty dental clinic brand from Sweden, has taken its message of oral health to Dubai’s schools as part of its School Project initiative.
The initiative has two main objectives – to evaluate the current oral health of schoolchildren, and then emphasize the importance of a balanced diet, oral hygiene techniques and regular dental check-ups.
Dr. Michael’s Dental Clinic was the very first in UAE to set up a free school programme in 1997, with free school dental visits and check-ups being a core part of its community outreach. The programme has now been reinstated and expanded, with Dr Michael’s Dental Clinic appointing Dr. Sosan Fatima as dedicated School Projects Coordinator.
“Children today are mostly at risk of cavities and gum problems, and these are the two areas we focus on when we visit schools. There’s always an element of practical help, where we give parents tips on what they can do to protect their children’s gums and teeth. We’ve realized that most dental issues in children are caused by an unhealthy diet and bad oral habits,” says Dr. Fatima.
Dr. Michael’s Dental Clinic has already scheduled 13 school visits to be completed by April 2016, with a total of 25 school and nursery visits planned for the year. Apart from its school visits, the Dr. Michael’s Dental Clinic also promotes oral health awareness by organizing dental field trips where children are invited to Dr Michael’s Children’s Dental Center at Umm Suqeim, Dubai.
A young audience necessitates a fun and flexible approach to ensure the message sinks in. “I do fun presentations and tooth brushing workshops. Videos, games and songs are all part of the experience. And of course, we understand that children of different ages varying attention spans, and we’ve carefully designed a different programme for each age group. Our audience starts from 3 and goes up to 12 years old,” she adds.
Dr Michael’s Dental Clinic was first established by its eponymous founder in 1982. The Stockholm-based brand quickly grew to 5 dental centres and a laboratory in its home city. In 1997, Dr Michael Formenius expanded to the UAE, where he currently runs three state-of- the-art multispecialty dental clinics along Dubai’s Al Wasl Road in Jumeirah. The Clinic has grown over 30 times in the last 15 years, and has to date treated 40,000 patients worldwide.
